1,000 Abuja IDPs Get Medical Care, Relief Items

As part of its corporate social responsibility, an Abuja-based company has extended humanitarian support to 1,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Karmajiji camp.

The initiative provided free medical care to more than 1,000 residents and distributed food items and other essential supplies, particularly for children, women, and the elderly.

During the outreach, the managing director and chief executive officer of Livebridge Properties and Investment Limited, Dr Nwaneri Obinna Flaker, said stressed the need for corporate organisations to complement government efforts to support vulnerable communities.

According to him, the company has maintained the initiative since 2020, making it a regular programme held at least once, if not twice, every year.

He said the outreach was driven by the company’s desire to identify vulnerable people within its host communities and provide practical assistance to improve their well-being.

“We have taken it upon ourselves to give back to our host community as a company. We have made it a norm every year, at least once or twice a year, to come to the disabled persons community,” he said.

“The government cannot do everything alone, and that’s why we have adopted this IDP camp as part of our corporate social responsibility to show love to the less privileged,” he said.

He added that the company is committed to aiding the most vulnerable, especially those unable to access healthcare or afford mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

“Many cannot afford medical treatment, and some require mobility aids. We believe that supporting them will help ease their burdens,” he noted.

The CEO described the outreach as an expression of love and humanity, stressing that the initiative was not motivated by religious, ethnic, gender or racial considerations.

He said the company’s philosophy was based on the belief that love should be extended to everyone without discrimination.

“The message of love was preached by God Himself. God loves us unconditionally. It cuts across race, religion and ethnic nationality. There is no discrimination; we just love,” he said.

Also speaking, Alice Ejembi, Head of Operations at Livebridge Properties, disclosed that similar interventions had been carried out in other IDP camps, including Kaura.

“It’s not just about feeding them; we also conduct medical check-ups, provide essential items, and donate mobility aids like wheelchairs,” she explained.

Beneficiaries of the outreach expressed heartfelt appreciation to Livebridge Properties for their continued support.

One of the residents, Sani Abdullahi, commended the company for its consistent interventions over the years.

“Livebridge Properties has been standing with us for a long time. Their support in healthcare, food, and other supplies has touched many lives here in Karmajiji. We pray that God continues to bless them for their kindness,” he said.
