The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that two persons were killed and 20 others were injured in a road crash involving a trailer at Wudil T-Junction along Maiduguri Road in Kano State on Saturday morning.
In a statement issued by the Kano State Sector Command, the Corps said the accident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. and involved a DAF trailer transporting animals, goods, and passengers from Wudil Market en route Lagos State.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle while approaching the junction due to excessive speed, resulting in the crash.
The Command disclosed that 30 adult males were involved in the incident. Of the number, 20 sustained varying degrees of injuries, eight were rescued unhurt, while two victims died at the scene.
The rescue team arrived within 10 minutes of receiving a distress call at about 9:25 a.m., carrying out prompt evacuation of victims. The injured were taken to Wudil General Hospital for treatment, while the wreckage was cleared to ease traffic flow along the busy route.
Sector Commander, CC Idris Mohammed Lawal, expressed concern over what he described as the continued violation of road safety regulations, particularly the use of trailers designed for goods and livestock to convey passengers.
He warned that over-speeding and overloading remained leading causes of road crashes, urging drivers and transport operators to comply strictly with safety rules. He also advised commuters to avoid boarding unsafe vehicles.
