2 Killed As Police Foil Bandit Attack On Oyo Community

The Oyo State Police Command has foiled a bandit attack on Elebe village in Aleniboro area via Irawo Mine, killing two of the suspected attackers during an intelligence-led operation.

The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the operation followed credible intelligence from a concerned resident who reported that about 10 armed men had taken refuge in a farm settlement in Elebe village, allegedly planning to launch a night attack on the community.

The suspects were said to be armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barreled guns and locally made pistols.

Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer in Tede reportedly briefed the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams to prevent the attack.

Police operatives, working alongside members of the Agbekoya local hunters in Aleniboro, moved to the identified location.

According to the Command, the suspects opened fire on sighting the security team, leading to a gun battle.

Two of the suspected bandits were neutralised during the exchange, while others fled the scene with suspected gunshot injuries.

“A reinforcement patrol team later combed the surrounding bush and recovered one cut-to-size locally made pistol, one empty cartridge, two live cartridges, two expended 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition shells, quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two Tecno button phones and a bottle containing a substance believed to be a mixed drink,’’ the command said.

Police said the area had been secured, with ongoing bush combing and surveillance operations aimed at apprehending the fleeing suspects and preventing further threats to Elebe Village and neighbouring communities.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against criminal activities.
