The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has arrested two women for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse, Kano.
In a statement issued yesterday by the command’s public relations officer, Musbahu Lawan, the suspects were identified as Maryam Ali (19) and Hauwa Musa (20).
They were intercepted during a routine security screening of visitors while attempting to gain access to the facility on December 21, 2025.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects who are residents of Kano carried suspected illicit substances intended for distribution to inmates within the custodial centre.
He described the act as a serious breach of its regulations and a criminal offence under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The suspects have since been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution in line with existing laws,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to maintaining high security standards, discipline and a zero-tolerance against all forms of illegal activities within and around custodial facilities.
The Service also warned members of the public to strictly comply with rules and regulations guiding visits to correctional facilities, adding that any violation would be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
