The 2025 AfroBasket Group B is set for its most thrilling encounter as Nigeria’s D’Tigers set to face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions Sunday afternoon in Luanda.

Both teams head into this crucial fixture unbeaten, each with two wins under their belts, with Nigeria currently leading the table on points difference.

The stakes could not be higher; a win for either side guarantees automatic qualification to the quarterfinals, while the losing team will have to navigate the more challenging playoff route.

Nigeria commenced their campaign with impressive authority, overcoming Madagascar with a score of 77-59, showcasing both flair and composure.

Caleb Agada stood out in that match, as the D’Tigers transformed a slender halftime lead into a commanding second-half performance.

They followed this with a resounding 87-66 victory over Tunisia, effectively shattering the defending champions’ hopes of a clean sweep in Group B.

Josh Okogie’s outstanding contribution of 33 points not only invigorated the team but also hinted at Nigeria hitting peak form at just the right moment.

Possessing depth across positions, a versatile bench, and the ability to adapt mid-game, the D’Tigers have demonstrated they are not merely contenders but are intent on reclaiming their former glory.

A triumph over Cameroon would send a strong message to the entire tournament that Nigeria is a serious frontrunner for the title they last lifted a decade ago.

On the opposing side, Cameroon has been phenomenal. The Lions burst into AfroBasket 2025 with a stunning 86-65 victory over Tunisia, effectively ending the North Africans’ impressive decade-long unbeaten streak in the tournament.

Williams Narace led the charge with 20 points while Jeremiah Hill, Yves Missi, and Fabian Ateba provided essential support.

The Cameroonian squad is bolstered by three NBA players including Yves Missi and Ulrich Chomche from the New Orleans Pelicans and Christian Koloko from the LA Lakers, marking a resurgence of Cameroonian basketball on the continental stage.

Their second game was a test of resilience, as they narrowly avoided an upset against Madagascar, emerging victorious with an 80-77 win thanks to late-game heroics from Jeremiah Hill.

This result preserved their unbeaten record, although it highlighted areas for improvement ahead of the tougher challenge posed by Nigeria.

Sunday’s match is more than just another group-stage encounter; it is a battle for supremacy.

Both teams understand that finishing top of Group B secures direct passage to the quarterfinals, allowing them to avoid the uncertainties of the playoff round.

For Nigeria, this match is about maintaining momentum, asserting dominance, and striving to replicate their championship-winning performances of 2015, exactly ten years on.
