Political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has weighed into the ongoing controversy surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), calling for the sack of the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, LEADERSHIP recalls, at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, emotionally acknowledged that technical glitches during the conduct of the 2025 UTME led to widespread failures, particularly in five South-Eastern states and Lagos.

Reacting to Oloyede’s statement, Yesufu took to her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, demanding that the Minister of Education under whose supervision JAMB operates should be removed from office.

“If Nigeria had a President, the Minister of Education would have been sacked immediately. That man came to say it was measures they put in place to stop cheating that led to the mass failure,” she wrote.

“Wait a minute, or is it that something was actually put in place to massively fail students?”

Yesufu’s remarks followed growing concerns over the high failure rate recorded in the 2025 UTME.

While Prof. Oloyede attributed the dismal performance to new anti-malpractice measures, education stakeholders have highlighted other systemic issues.

Technical glitches, including computer malfunctioning and power outages, reportedly disrupted the examination process in several centres.

Additionally, factors such as inadequate teachers, outdated curricula, and economic challenges affecting students’ preparation were also cited as contributing to the mass failure.
