As the 2027 general elections draw close, the atmosphere in Akwa Ibom State has been stimulated by political gladiators jostling for nominations on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre.
Urging for a free, fair and transparent nomination process towards selecting best candidates for the contest, Dr Erikan Tom Peter, a prominent son of Adiasim Ward 1, in Essien Udim local government area, vying for the ticket of Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, has called for a level playing field for all contenders.
Addressing supporters and journalists at the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA), Uyo, the state capital yesterday upon his arrival from Abuja, after purchasing his nomination and expression of interest forms, Peter, stressed the need for open nominations to allow the people to make free choices.
According to the House of Representatives hopeful, the purchasing of the forms demonstrated his readiness to provide responsive representation including youths and women empowerment, educational advancement, community development, and economic opportunities.
He maintained that time has come to promote political inclusion, fairness and balanced participation in leadership, assuring that “every segments of the federal constituency will feel represented and valued.”
“This movement is about collective progress, unity, and shared prosperity,” he said, and solicited the support from the constituency to scale through.
He noted that Adiasim Ward, has for many years experienced political marginalisation, despite its significant contributions to the political stability and development of the federal constituency.
The aspirant, who is the Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s kinsman, therefore promised to “provide responsive representation, youth and women empowerment, educational advancement, community development and economic opportunities for the people.
He called for the support and goodwill of the stakeholders and people of the federal constituency as they work together towards a better and more progressive future.
Stakeholders including Retired Major Paulinus Ekpo leader of the Campaign Committee and Prince Ekon James , Kuseme Bede, youths representatives, as well as women representative, Jane Inyang, while applauding the aspirant for his interest in the well-being of the constituency, threw their weight behind the aspiration, urging him to provide effective representation when elected.
