As the 2027 general elections draw close, the atmosphere in Akwa Ibom State has been stimulated by political gladiators jostling for nominations on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre.

Urging for a free, fair and transparent  nomination process towards selecting best candidates for the contest, Dr Erikan Tom Peter, a prominent son of Adiasim Ward 1, in Essien Udim local government area, vying for the ticket of  Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State, has called for a level playing field for all contenders.

Addressing supporters and journalists at the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA), Uyo, the state capital yesterday upon his arrival from Abuja, after purchasing his nomination and expression of interest forms, Peter, stressed the need for open nominations to allow the people to make free choices.

According to the House of Representatives hopeful, the purchasing of the forms demonstrated his readiness to provide responsive representation including youths and women empowerment, educational advancement, community development, and economic opportunities.

He maintained that time has come to  promote political inclusion,  fairness and balanced participation in leadership, assuring that “every segments of the federal constituency will feel represented and valued.”

“This movement is about collective progress, unity, and shared prosperity,” he said, and solicited the support from the constituency to scale through.

He noted that Adiasim Ward, has for many years experienced political marginalisation, despite its significant contributions to the political stability and development of the federal constituency.
