2027: Defence Minister Takes APC Campaign Role, Vows Security Duties Won’t Suffer

Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), has accepted his appointment as Secretary I of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, assuring Nigerians that the political assignment will not interfere with his constitutional responsibilities.

Musa, in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, said he would discharge his responsibilities in the campaign council with diligence, administrative rigour and focus, while remaining committed to his duties as Defence Minister.

He stressed that his primary responsibility of safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting the lives and property of citizens remained “absolute and uncompromising.”

According to him, ongoing military operations, strategic reforms and inter-agency collaborations within the defence sector would continue without interruption despite his new political assignment.

“National security remains our highest imperative,” Musa said.

“The resolve to uphold the mandate of the Ministry of Defence, protect our people, and drive Mr. President’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria remains firm and unshakeable,” he added.

The minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him, describing the appointment as a “call to higher service.”

Musa also called on APC members and other patriotic Nigerians to remain united behind the Tinubu administration, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory at the 2027 polls while continuing to deliver good governance and strengthen security across the country.

His appointment came amid preparations by political parties for the 2027 general elections, with the ruling APC expected to intensify its mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of the polls.

The development also places the Defence Minister in a political campaign role while he continues to oversee Nigeria’s defence architecture and military response to security challenges across the country.
