2027: ‘Gombe APC Consensus Candidate Reflects Public Aspirations’

The emergence of Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Gombe State has been described as a true reflection of the aspirations of the people.

Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan, Director-General of the Gombe Geographic Information System (GOGIS), made this known while reacting to the announcement of the consensus candidate.

He said the broad-based consensus was reached following extensive consultations led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, involving multiple aspirants and key stakeholders, including religious leaders, traditional rulers, business leaders, party executives, and grassroots mobilisers.

According to him, the engagements were aimed at capturing diverse opinions to ensure that the outcome enjoyed wide acceptance.

Hassan noted that the choice of Gwamna reflects the will of the people.

“Ultimately, the emergence of Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna is not merely a political decision but a reflection of the aspirations of the good people of Gombe State.”

“It represents a convergence of experience, character, and public trust—qualities stakeholders consider essential for sustaining progress and advancing the state’s developmental objectives,” he said.

He added that Gwamna brings decades of experience in partisan politics, spanning both the public and private sectors.

“He is widely recognised for his philanthropy towards vulnerable groups, which has strengthened his grassroots appeal. His simplicity, humility, and respect for humanity have also stood him out.

“In a diverse state like Gombe, his inclusive and non-discriminatory outlook is seen as critical to sustaining social harmony,” Hassan stated.

The GOGIS DG further noted that the process has raised governance expectations.

“Having emerged through a consultative and inclusive process, there is a strong public expectation that such inclusiveness will translate into a governance style that prioritises stakeholder engagement, transparency, and accountability.

“The consensus has generated optimism across the state, with indications of broad acceptance among party members and the public.

“By reducing internal contestation, the APC can now focus on policy articulation and voter engagement ahead of 2027, with key areas such as youth employment, agriculture, infrastructure, and social welfare expected to dominate discourse,” he added.
