Former Labour Party’s (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, has ruled out his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing that he has been part of the party’s coalition from the outset.

Obi made the clarification on Sunday on X, following speculations about his political alignment ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to him, there is no need to officially join the ADC since he has always been a member and a key part of the coalition since its inception.

“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of. I’ve been part of the coalition from day one,” Obi said.

He also dismissed claims that anyone was stepping down for him within the ADC, noting that all stakeholders have agreed to work collectively.

Obi further stated that he maintains deep respect for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a leader he continues to honour.

“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together, and Atiku remains my respected leader,” he added.
