Members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Umar Namadi for what they described as his purposeful and exemplary leadership, which has positively impacted the lives of their constituents over the past three years.

The vote of confidence was passed during a sitting of the House presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Muhammad Lawan Dansure, sponsored a motion urging members to deliberate on the matter and adopt a resolution that would serve as a morale booster, as well as a mark of appreciation and recognition of the governor’s efforts to make Jigawa State more prosperous.

During the sitting, members, one after another, highlighted the dividends of democracy delivered to their constituencies, which they said justified the vote of confidence in the governor.

They outlined projects and programmes spanning key sectors, implemented in line with the governor’s 12-point agenda, which emphasises inclusive governance and equitable development.

Projects cited include the construction of hundreds of classrooms; completion of over 340 kilometres of inherited road projects; and the award of 43 new road projects covering more than 980 kilometres, some of which have already been completed and commissioned.

Other achievements highlighted include the expansion of irrigation facilities; sustained support for agriculture, including the rice millionaires programme; employment of 1,000 extension workers under the J-Agro initiative; establishment of a Ministry of Livestock; provision of free veterinary services; construction of new general hospitals; and the renovation and upgrade of existing ones, including over 180 primary healthcare facilities.

Members also cited various solar-powered projects, including the conversion of diesel-powered water facilities and streetlights to solar energy, as well as the construction of mini-grids for residential areas and selected public buildings to promote clean energy use.

They further referenced social intervention programmes, including the economic empowerment of over 400,000 people; enrolment of more than 250,000 vulnerable persons in social health insurance schemes; erosion control projects; scholarship awards; and the employment of over 7,000 teachers and more than 2,000 health workers.

The lawmakers said these initiatives have directly benefited their constituencies within a relatively short period of three years.

Relying on the governor’s performance record, the Assembly unanimously passed the vote of confidence and pledged to mobilise support for his second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Hon. Dangyatin, expressed satisfaction with the testimonies of members, noting that each cited numerous projects executed in their constituencies. He urged them to continue promoting the governor’s achievements.

“By your testimonies, we are convinced that every household, community, town, and local government area has benefited from the dividends of democracy delivered by Governor Namadi. With this, we can affirm that he is a great leader who deserves continued support, and we are proud to be associated with his achievements,” he said.
