2027: Kwankwaso Optimistic Of Securing NDC Vice Presidential Ticket

Former Kano State governor and Senator representing Kano Central, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed optimism about securing the vice-presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso said the move, if achieved, would mark a major political milestone for Kano State and strengthen its long-standing ambition to produce Nigeria’s president in the future.

He stated this during an interview with Premier Radio, where he described the 2027 election as a defining moment for both the state and the country if he emerges as the party’s running mate.

“By God’s grace, the next election will be unlike anything that has ever happened in our state and country, especially if I secure the ticket and my name is on the ballot,” he said.

The former governor lamented that Kano State has never produced a vice president since the First Republic, despite its significant political influence and contributions to national politics.

“Since the First Republic, despite our struggles and political wisdom, Kano has never produced a vice president. This is both disappointing and deeply saddening, but by God’s grace, it will be corrected,” Kwankwaso stated.

He added that attaining the position would be a historic breakthrough for the state and could pave the way for a future presidential bid from Kano.

“Kano State will rightfully secure this position, which will open the door for our state to eventually produce the president of this country,” he said.

Kwankwaso also urged political stakeholders in northern Nigeria, particularly the North-West, to be strategic in their decisions ahead of the 2027 elections, warning against political miscalculations.

“People from the south who understand what is happening are already registering with our party. The north, especially the North-West, must be careful and ensure they do what is right so they do not make a decision they will deeply regret,” he added.

The former presidential candidate recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he had been part of a broader opposition coalition.
