Ahead of 2027 general elections, the people of Mbube nation in Ogoja local government area of Cross River State have declared their support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and Deputy Governor Peter Odey.

The position was unveiled while answering questions from LEADERSHIP after a thanksgiving ceremony/solidarity rally held at St. Columbus Primary School, Idum Mbube, on Sunday.

Organised under the aegis of Liluom ê Mbe, the rally celebrated what the leaders described as “ongoing infrastructural development and economic empowerment in Mbube and the state at large.”

The event drew political stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth groups, women groups, and supporters from across Mbube communities.

The chairman of the Central Committee, CP Gabriel Achong (rtd), who spoke on behalf of Mbube Nation, said the rally was “unanimously convened to celebrate and formally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the  Cross River State, Governor, Bassey Otu, and his Deputy, Dr. Peter Odey, for a second term due to their outstanding performance.”

He stressed that the “impactful and people-oriented governance of the trio, as well as their tremendous achievements and commitment to development,” informed the declaration of support for 2027.

Achong stated  that the rally also sought “to commend the Deputy Governor, a son of Mbube, for his supportive role to the Governor and his contributions, which have positively influenced development and strengthened ties between the government, the Mbube communities, and beyond.” Deputy Governor ,Peter Odey, an indigene of Mbube, was a central figure at the celebration.”

In his earlier remarks, when he addressed the gathering, Liluom ê Mbube and  president general, Prof. Tony Eyang, described the emergence of  Peter Odey as deputy governor in 2023 as “a historic milestone for the people.”

He praised Governor Otu for visiting the community soon after assuming office and for “the ongoing rehabilitation of the Mbube-Ogoja Road.” Prof. Eyang further expressed appreciation for “the inclusion of Mbube indigenes in key positions within the state government.”

The varsity don highlighted pending needs in the area, stressing “the need to curb illegal logging, reconnect Mbube to the national grid, rehabilitate public schools, commence the Mbube East-Utugwang-Obudu Road, and establish a polytechnic to cater to the growing number of students from the area.”

He assured the people of the government’s “commitment to completing ongoing projects in the area” and urged continued support for President Tinubu, noting that the President “has taken steps to stabilise the national economy, tackle insecurity, and advance critical infrastructure development across the country.”

The rally’s high point was the endorsement motion moved by Chief Patrick Agida and seconded by Hon. Sunny Achang, Deputy Leader of the Ogoja Legislative Council, which was “unanimously adopted through a voice vote by the people.”
