A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Hon. Innocent Ajaelu, has declared that it is not only the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, who will decide the group’s preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.
The Rainbow Coalition is a major political alliance led by Wike, which was created to unite politicians from the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the Action Alliance (AA) toward a shared political vision.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, the state capital yesterday, Ajaelu, said the choice of the preferred governorship candidate of the coalition will be a collective decision.
He stated that the group will certainly choose its preferred governorship candidate from the political parties that are related to it after all the political parties must have published their standard bearers.
“I will say for now, the coalition has not chosen any preferred governorship candidate. Why I will say no is because, first, all parties involved have not published their candidates. It is when they publish their candidates that we will know anyone that falls within the rainbow coalition.
“I know we have the leadership in the person of Chief Nyesom Wike. I know he will consult, I know he will meet, I know that there will be a decision and the little that I know about Wike, I know it will be a collective decision of leaders of the Rainbow Coalition of the governorship candidate that we will support, the APC”, chieftain said.
Ajaelu, who is also the APC Youth leader in Rivers South-East senatorial district, expressed the hope that the Rainbow Coalition will effectively affect the voting pattern in the state in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
He said: “So, the coalition in Rivers State will effectively affect the voting pattern in the coming 2027 election.”
