Four persons have been killed while 10 others sustained injuries when an Isuzu vehicle conveying passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri, Borno State rammed into an improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists.
The incident occurred as the vehicle reached Komala Village, Konduga, in Konduga local government area of Borno State.
LEADERSHIP recalls that in a similar incident last Friday at the same Konduga, a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated an IED at a joint in a crowded fish market and killed 12 persons with 18 others sustaining injuries.
Security sources and eyewitnesses confirmed that the attacker infiltrated the market disguised as a civilian before detonating the explosive.
A statement issued to Journalists on Wednesday in Maiduguri by the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the corpses of the deceased and the injured victims have been evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, for autopsy and medical treatment.
The PPRO said, “The Borno State Police Command regrets to report a tragic incident that occurred today, 25th June 2025, at about 1230hrs.
“One Isuzu pickup vehicle with registration number DAM 156 XA (Borno), conveying passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri, on reaching Komala Village, in Konduga local government area, the vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
“As a result of the explosion, four (4) persons lost their lives, while ten (10) others sustained various degrees of injuries.
“The corpses of the deceased and the injured victims have been evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, for autopsy and medical treatment respectively,” he said.
The PPRO added that normalcy has been restored with the deployment of joint security team to the scene to prevent further attacks, “while efforts are ongoing by Police EOD-CBRN to probe the scene”.
