President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to declare open the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum in Maiduguri, scheduled to take place from January 29th to 31st, 2025.
The forum, hosted by the Yobe State Government, aims to foster regional cooperation, stabilisation, peacebuilding, and sustainable development among member states.
Yobe State commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullah Bego, disclosed that all preparations are in place for the three-day event. He added that pre-forum events, managed by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) under Baba Mallam Wali’s supervision, have been ongoing since January 27.
He said these events include a gathering of traditional rulers and a press conference highlighting the LOC’s preparations.
According to him, the LOC has worked closely with the Lake Chad Basin Commission to finalize the meeting’s agenda, focusing on pressing regional challenges such as environmental degradation, climate change, and economic development.
He said the forum will bring together governors from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, along with representatives from regional and international organisations.
A communiqué outlining key resolutions and action plans for the region is expected to be produced during the meeting.
