Seven people were burnt beyond recognition, while 18 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an auto crash which occurred Thursday along the ever-busy Lagos- Ibadan expressway.

The accident, which occurred a few meters after the Sapade Bridge in the Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, involved a Toyota Sienna space car with registration number BWR 762 PV and an Ibadan-bond Mazda passengers‘ bus marked: BDN 18 LG.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the top – speeding Lagos-bound Toyota Sienna space car had driven in the direction prohibited by the traffic laws and consequently collided with the Mazda passengers‘ bus, thereby resulting in the sudden fire outbreak that caused the death of the seven trapped victims that were burnt beyond recognition.

The public education officer for Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Florence Okpe, who confirmed the accident, explained that 18 other people, which included a female child sustained serious injuries.

Okpe also attributed causes of the fatal crash to „excessive speed and route violation“ on the part of the driver of the Toyota Sienna space car.

She, however, disclosed that the injured victims have been rescued to a private hospital in the Ogere Remo and Sagamu areas for medical attention, while carcasses of the dead victims were also evacuated to the morgue of another private hospital in the area.

The FRSC Sector Commander for Ogun Command, Ahmed Umar however, appealed to motorists to always weigh the dangers of route violation, excessive speeding and consider the welfare of other road users each time they are plying the road, emphasizing that „human lives are important.”
