Vice-Chancellor, Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Prof. Joseph Ayodele, yesterday said that 82 of the 10,959 students are to receive First Class degrees during the 30th convocation of the institution.
He also revealed that EKSU had emerged as the first state-owned university in Nigeria to implement the recently approved new salary structure for Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Professor Ayodele made these known on Tuesday during a press conference to herald the activities lined up for the 30th Convocation Ceremonies of the institution, scheduled to hold on Friday, 10th and Saturday, 11th April, 2026, to mark the 44th anniversary of the establishment of our University.
Giving the breakdown of the degrees to be awarded, he added that 2,794 of the graduates obtained Second Class Upper degrees, 6,020 received Second Class Lower degrees, 1,217 received Third Class degrees, and 12 students graduated with Pass degrees.
“A total number of 10,959 graduates of the university will be conferred with Diplomas, Bachelor’s degrees and Higher degrees during this convocation.
“Diploma: Distinction 11, Upper Credit 162, Lower Credit 111, Subtotal 284. Bachelor’s Degrees: First Class (Hons): 82, Second Class (Hons) (Upper Division): 2,794, Second Class (Hons) (Lower Division):6,020, Third Class (Hons): 1,217, Pass: 12, Sub-Total: 10,125.Higher Degrees: PhD 155, Master’s 270, Postgraduate Diploma 125, Sub- total: 550. Grand Total 10,959”
Speaking on the implementation of the newly approved salary structure for ASUU members at the university, he said, “I am proud at this juncture to report that, with the uncommon support of our amiable Visitor to the University and Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, as well as our dynamic Governing Council, ably led by Professor Akin Oyebode, EKSU becomes the first state university in Nigeria that would implement the recently approved new salary structure to Academic Staff Unions of Universities(ASUU), as all ASUU members of our EKSU chapter received new salaries with effect from March, 2026”.
The VC said the Convocation lecture title, “Power, Responsibility and Stewardship: Balancing the Barricade with Governance”, will be delivered on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and Chairman of Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-owned Universities, Prof. Ayodeji Oludare Omole.
Giving his account of stewardship as Vice Chancellor of the university for over one and a half years, he said, “The University has, for the second time, in quick succession, by the Times Higher Education in its 2026 ranking, ranked as the Best State University in Nigeria and Twelfth among over 300 universities in Nigeria.
“It is cheering and pleasing to note that a University, which was established forty-four years ago in the hinterland, has become a beauty to behold, recognised by different ranking bodies including Webometrics, Web of Universities, and the US News & World Report”.
