We are not going to be confrontational but we will make sure that the independence of the legislature is protected and won’t be a rubber stamp.

“We’ve seen that the Senate President is ready for the job and once he gives us our respect, we are going to support him.

“And you could see clearly that he is ready to work with us on behalf of the country. Things have not been working well in the past but we are going to face things squarely.

“We are 50 in the opposition and the majority are 59. But we will watch. But since the presiding officer said he will carry people along, we will see how he shared the committees,” Ningi said.

According to him, “It is the composition of the committee that will tell the people that they have been carried along.”

According to Ningi, the executive session they had was assuring, adding that they also went through the order paper.

“We had an executive session, went through the order paper, congratulated the Speaker of the House of Representatives and also sent a letter to the international bodies,” Ningi said.
