The Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR) has issued a strong call to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging him to reinstate five leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) who were unjustly sacked by the Lagos State University (LASU) back in 2017.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had established a panel to investigate the issue between the lecturers and the former management of the institution. In 2022, the panel recommended the reinstatement of the lecturers in its report submitted to the governor.

However, despite the panel’s recommendation, the ASUU-LASU executives have not been reinstated since then. CDWR, through a statement signed by National Chairperson Rufus Olusesan and National Publicity Secretary Chinedu Bosah, has alleged an arbitration on this matter.

CDWR expressed its shock and disappointment at the delay to implement the panel’s recommendation which proves to impede the quality research, pedagogical and administrative excellence, as well as industrial harmony within LASU.

The ASUU-LASU 5, consisting of ASUU-LASU chairman Dr. Akinloye Isaac Oyewumi, Vice chairman Dr. Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu, Secretary Dr. Anthony Dansu, Assistant Secretary Dr. Adeolu Oluwaseyi Oyekan, and Treasurer Dr. Oluwakemi Aboderin-Shonibare, were ddismissed the governing council on September 7th and September 12th, 2017.

CDWR further criticized the silence of the Labour Union on this matter and called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other organizations to join forces in seeking justice for the sacked lecturers.
