Former governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose has reaffirmed his allegiance to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) while expressing his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose, who visited President Tinubu, yesterday at the Presidential Villa emphasised the need for unity in Nigeria and the importance of working together for the betterment of the country.
Fayose, made it clear that he would not join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared his loyalty to the PDP.
He asserted that his support for President Tinubu was based on the leader’s vision for Nigeria’s future.
He said “let me start with the last one. Let me say again, unequivocally, I’ve said it in several for a. I will never be a member of the APC. I am a PDP man, if anything takes me out of the PDP or if I don’t do partisan politics again, I will be the husband of my wife at home.
“It is not a matter of party, Nigeria is bigger than all political parties and all interest groups. I want to tell you again, you don’t have to make an appointment to make a difference.”
“Nigeria is about 200 million people, we all can’t be on appointment, whosoever makes it, either in the APC or in the attempt to have a government of national unity, it’s all about service.
“May I say to you expressly, I am not a desperate person at all, but I don’t shy away and I will never shy away to give direction wherever I am. I am with this government, without apologies.
“Majority in the past can tell you, even when I was a sitting governor in Ekiti, I’ve always spoken well of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose also highlighted the significance of collective effort, mentioning other prominent figures like former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Seyi Makinde, who have chosen to stand with Tinubu.
Responding to questions about potential appointments, Fayose stated that he believed one did not need an official position to make a positive impact in the country.
Acknowledging that not everyone could hold appointments, he emphasized that serving Nigeria was paramount, regardless of political affiliations or party lines.
When asked about his plans for the revival of the PDP, Fayose emphasized his history of candid criticism of past administrations, including President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, he expressed optimism about President Tinubu’s intentions and urged Nigerians to remain hopeful for a positive change.
Fayose also made it clear that he would not hesitate to hold Tinubu accountable if he deviated from his promises.
