University of Port Harcourt said it initiated the annual holiday digital booth camp, tagged, “Catch Them Young”, to train and equip youths and kids with relevant digital skills to fit into the fourth industrial revolution.

The director of the university’s Centre for Information and Telecommunication Engineering (CITE), Professor Bourdillon Omijeh, disclosed this yesterday while speaking at the graduation and awards ceremony of the 2023 booth camp in Port Harcourt.

Omijeh stated that the booth camp, which was approved by the senate of the university was also aimed at training and developing human capacity through academia and industry based post graduate programmes in Electronic, ICT and Telecommunication Engineering.

He stated that the vision of the booth camp, which began in 2022, is to mentor youths and kids to fulfil their God-given destinies and to become world class digital innovators and entrepreneurs through the “Catch Them Young” Digital Initiatives.

The CITE director, commended the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for partnering with the university to execute the second phase of the booth camp.

Omijeh appealed to other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government to emulate NITDA by partnering with the institution in subsequent editions of the booth camp.

He said: “We really appreciate NITDA for this excellent gesture as we also extend this same invitation to other relevant MDAs, government organisations, industries, etc to do same in our next editions.”
