Traders Drag LG To Court Over Alleged Land Grabbing

Justice Idowu Akinkunmi of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja will today hear a suit filed by some aggrieved traders of White Sand Market, Otto, Oyingbo area of the state, over the alleged plan by the Lagos Mainland Local Government to take over the market.

The traders Mrs Sherifat Abeke, Alhaji Garba Malam and Orji Onuoha in their suit had accused the Mainland Local Government of planning to evict them and demolishing a market without any due consideration to their well-being.

Already Justice Akinkunmi had granted an interim order restraining the Local Government, and the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice by themselves, agents, privies, servants and or any other person claiming through them from entering, letting, demolishing and building on the land known as White Sand Market, Otto, Oyingbo, Lagos State, during the lifespan of the order which shall be for seven days.

The plaintiffs through their application dated June 14, 2023, had prayed the judge to issue an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants by themselves, their agents, servants, privies and any other person however described from entering the land pending the determination of the suit.

They had also asked the court for an interim injunction restraining the defendants by themselves, their agents, servants, privies, and any other person described as demolishing the construction on the land.

Furthermore, the claimants/applicants sought an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants by themselves, their agents, servants, privies, and any other person however described from building on the land known as White Sand Market, Otto, Oyingbo, Lagos State, pending the determination of the suit.

The aggrieved traders also want the court to grant an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants by themselves, their agents, servants, privies and any other person, howsoever described, from letting out the land known as White Sand Market, Otto, Oyingbo, Lagos State, pending the determination of this suit.
