In a communique signed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), chairman Comrade Idris Lafene and Trade Union Congress (TUC), chairman Comrade Ibrahim Gana decried the action of the state government.

In the communique which was issued after the State Executive Council (SEC), meeting held at Labour House, IBB Road, Minna, NLC observed, “ with dismay the recent political appointments made to some MDAs which were in blatant disregard to extant laws establishing the MDAs.

“It therefore resolved that the government should look into the appointments and reverse itself for the sanctity of the civil service.”

The workers also expressed disappointment over the delay in the implementation of the Wage Award in Niger State and that if implementation continues to linger, the organized labour will have no option but to take appropriate industrial action.

Labour insisted also that the verification when consented to should be held in respective local government areas and proper sensitization of pensioners should be done for at least two months before the commencement of the verification.

The unions expressed readiness to conduct seamless screening exercise for workers in the state and local government areas as requested by the government to assist the government in ascertaining the actual data of its workforce.
