Oshoala, Ajibade, 5 Other Falcons Stars Shortlisted For CAF Best Player Award

Super Falcons septet Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Tony Payne, Christy Ucheibe, Osinachi Ohale and Uchenna Kanu have been shortlisted for 2023 CAF Women’s Player of The Year award

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was also listed for the Goalkeeper of the Year after her heroics performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and her club side, Paris FC.

The preliminary nominees for the various women’s categories for the CAF Awards 2023 was unveiled yesterday on the CAF’s official website, cafonline.com.

The list for the Women’s Player of The Year is made up of 30 women from 12 countries with Nigeria and South Africa leading the pack with six players each respectively. 

Falconets star Esther Ajakaye who made her debut for the Super Falcons in the first leg of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers against Ethiopia was nominated alongside compatriots Deborah Abiodun and Oluwatosin Demehin for the Young Player of the Year category.

Coach Randy Waldrum whose future guided Super Falcons to the round of 16 finished at the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand is also in contention for the Coach of the Year, just as Nigeria will also battle Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia for the National Team of the Year.

Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, is the current holder of the top prize which she won in 2022. It was her fifth CAF women’s player of the year gong and would be going for sixth crown.
