The chairman of the Academic Staff Union (ASUU) of the University of Ilorin, Dr Alex Akanmu, has appealed to Kwara State government to open the Tanker-Tipper garage road to ease movement of the people to the university.
Tanker-Tipper garage road, the major route to the campus of the University of Ilorin had been closed since the commencement of work on Tunde Idiagbon flyover along the route.
The ASUU chairman said the recent economic hardship being faced by the members of the university community is telling on the academic staff especially on the ease of daily operations.
He added: “The union is therefore compelled to appeal to the state government on opening of tanker-tipper garage road leading to the university.
“Without mincing words, the idea of a flyover at this axis of the state is commendable and appreciated in all ramifications. When fully in use, no doubt, it will open up the economic activities of the area, add beauty and importantly, ease free flow of vehicular moments. We therefore appreciate the government for this kind gesture.
“ It is instructive to note that the alternative route along Awolowo road is extremely narrow, not fit for trucks and filled with avoidable bottlenecks. We therefore seek the understanding of the government to consider the plight of our people (staff and students).
“As partners in progress, we assure the government of our continued commitments to the greatness of the State of Harmony.”
