The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the suspected suicide of a 46-year-old businessman, Akinbolusere Kayode, popularly known as Tolufe, who was found dead in his office in Igba town, Ondo State.
The businessman, said to be the owner of a popular estate, reportedly died on Thursday, hours after releasing an emotional video in which he spoke about his business challenges, marital relationship and plans for the distribution of his properties.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this to journalists on Friday, saying the deceased was found in his office beside BOVAS Petrol Station, Igba, at about 3pm.
According to him, the incident was reported by members of the public, following which operatives attached to Bolorunduro Division visited the scene.
The police said two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide were recovered from a nearby bush, adding that no visible marks of violence were observed on the deceased’s body.
His remains were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and further examination.
Meanwhile, in the video, which has since circulated on social media, Tolufe spoke about the difficulties confronting his business, including technical faults affecting some of the machines used in his operations.
He disclosed that three machines had developed faults, explaining that two of them had commenced operations earlier that morning before the problems emerged.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, the businessman said he built his business through legitimate means and had never engaged in illegal or questionable activities to acquire his wealth.
He also spoke emotionally about his wife, Akinbolusere Esther Adenike, whom he acknowledged as a major source of support throughout his journey to financial success.
Tolufe expressed regret over the challenges in their marital relationship, taking responsibility for some of the difficulties rather than blaming his wife.
He also mentioned his three children, Oluwafemi, Toluwani and Daniel, while stating that his accumulated wealth and properties should belong to his wife and children.
The businessman repeatedly maintained in the video that his decision concerning the distribution of his assets was voluntary, insisting that nobody had compelled or pressured him.
