Obasanjo who joined her to make the occasion memorable was the second-in-command to Murtala Mohammed and subsequently took over when he was assassinated in a failed coup on February 13,1976 in Lagos.

The special assistant on media, to the former president, Kehinde Akinyemi, in a press release, said Obasanjo’s visit to the orphanage in Alapere, Lagos, last Sunday, a few hours to New Year was a great period for sober reflection and an opportunity to change for good.

During the visit, the former leader, who is also the chairman of the Murtala Mohammed Foundation commended Mohammed-Oyebode for selecting such a meaningful place to celebrate her diamond.

Accompanied by his daughter, Dr. Kofo Blackshire and her family, who were spending Christmas with him, they toured the facility, gaining insights into the positive impact of the foundation’s work.

The celebrant, a human rights advocate and chief executive officer of the foundation, said there was an urgent need to dismantle barriers obstructing peaceful negotiations and enhance the protection of women and children in conflict zones.
