The Deji of Akure Kingdom and the Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi has appealed to the Federal Government to increasing the funding of tertiary education in the country, especially the specialized technology-related institutions in the country.

Oba Aladetoyinbo stated this during the 31st and 32nd combined convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology, Minna held at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square at the main campus in Gidan Kwano.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday in Akure, the Ondo State capital by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Adeyeye Michael, the monarch affirmed that since more funding is required for the University to achieve its stated vision and mission, “I will continue to appeal to the Federal Government for the release of the established special fund for specialized Universities in the country through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)”.

According to the monarch, “These specialized Universities can champion the country’s technological drive in line with the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda in all the priority areas of governance and as a key driver in Information Technology, Communication, and digital-economy initiatives.”

The Chancellor praised President Tinubu for approving the removal of Universities and other tertiary institutions in the country from the integrated payroll and personnel information system (IPPIS) describing it as a welcome development for the growth and development of tertiary education. This is a clear indication that the government is not unmindful of the distinct nature of the educational sector as well as its complexities.
