President Bola Tinubu’s coordinator in the 2023 polls in Bauchi local government area, Hon Khalifa Mujitafa Barau has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he described as regressive tendencies of the party leaders in Bauchi State.
Barau explained that there were so many unpleasant happenings in the Bauchi APC which dates back to the period of the party primary election to date. The issues were neither resolved nor put on sound footing to propel the wheels of the party.
In a chat with newsmen in Bauchi on the long wrangling in the Bauchi APC, he recalled the leadership crisis which enveloped the party right from its primaries which bogged down its tempo culminating to losing the 2023 gubernatorial election in the state, a replica to the 2019 polls, and ruled out its chances in 2027.
“Membership of the APC in Bauchi State was in disarray, party officials at both state and local government levels were adamant to its course, with pending court case that boot out the state party chairman, and an acting chairman that could neither paddle the party to its charted course nor unite members to afloat right,” he said.
Barau gave three reasons for leaving the party which include its lackadaisical attitude to ascertain its inability to win gubernatorial election in Bauchi in 2019 and 2023, and should the tempo continues, its chances in 2027 are very slim.
The former Tinubu coordinator gave the third reason as the inability of the APC to patronize its Bauchi members by the centre, especially in terms of giving appointments to comfort them, saying “I have been the APC-Tinubu coordinator for Bauchi LGA prior to party primaries, into delegates election and subsequent polls in which Tinubu emerge President of Nigeria, yet I am groaning under the sun.”
