The Police, on Friday, dispersed protesters at the popular Berger Roundabout in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, when they noticed that the protesters were gathering in their numbers on the second day of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests against hardship and hunger.

The protesters, who were converging at the rendezvous in their numbers, were chanting solidarity songs, and the popular slongan ‘End bad governance’ and ‘Hungry dey’ when the Policemen around the area went to tell them to leave the area.

Noticing that the protesters were not ready to leave the area, they started firing teargas cannisters in the air to disperse them.

Journalists and protesters had to run for safety because of the teargas cannisters that were fired by the Policemen directly at them.

Some of the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) that were around the area were visibly angry at the Policemen for firing the teargas cannisters, because the protesters were peacefully conducting themselves, without any form of provocation.

However, the teargas eventually dispersed the protesters and journalists, who gathered at the popular Berger bus stop.

LEADERSHIP recalls that an FCT High Court had on Wednesday ordered and restricted the #EndBadGovernance protesters to the Mashood Abiola National Stadium as a venue of their protest but on getting there on Thursday, the FCT Police Command led by its Commissioner, CP Ben Igwe, disallowed them from gaining access into the facility, a development that forced some of them to move to the Eagle Square in the Central Area of Abuja.
