The event, which was held in Abuja, featured a lineup  of talented designers, models, and stylists who presented their latest collections to a packed audience of fashion enthusiasts, influencers, and industry experts.

According to the founder and curator of Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria, Santiago Roberts, “The Men’s Fashion Week in Nigeria serves as a powerful platform that demonstrates how men can step beyond these boundaries, with brilliant designers are increasingly experimenting with bold patterns, draped silhouettes, and mixed fabrics,we must learn to  open doors towards innovative styles that reflect the diverse identities of men in Nigeria and Africa as a whole”.

This year’s event which embodied three days of simply stunning designs showcased an array of designers who were clearly committed to exploring the fusion of traditional African aesthetics with modern elements.

From vibrant regal english wears fit for kings to stunning combos that screamed boyish yet stylish charm to decadent agbada styles infused with local motifs as well a jewellery, paired with heart pumping music that kept the audience glued to the recording apps on their phones, none dared to miss each walk and prowess of the models elegant yet powerful steps.

Tonye Hart the producer stated that “this year’s focus was on encouraging men to embrace a wardrobe that symbolises their unique personality and cultural heritage”.

Since the evolution of fashion emerged in Nigeria/Africa, it became more pronounced that Africans are clearly immersed in a tapestry of colours and cultures, where fashion increasingly becomes the much-needed reflection of diversity and storytelling for the present and future generations.

This year’s Men’s Fashion Week highlighted how colour and vibrancy can transform not just how men dress, but how they express themselves.

As the event progressed it was noticed that designers were called to push the envelope; to not only incorporate flashy prints, unexpected colour combinations, and inventive layering techniques but drape bodies that call to the fluid stylish identity of fashion, to this end, female models were also placed on the runway in beautiful male dominated pieces that etched power and grace to not just their being but in each audience member who applauded the unexpected outlook for menswear.

This has now set the pace in creating a beacon of inspiration for men who aspire to express their individuality. Abiola Oparinde the marketing manager of Jabi Lake mall stated that “This bold and sudden shift on the runway has propelled men’s fashion towards a more daring approach that he hopes will allows men to move away from the mundane, promoting self-confidence and encouraging a dialogue within the fashion community about what it means to dress well in today’s society”.

Men’s Fashion Week each year is a vital movement towards positively redefining how men view fashion and, ultimately, themselves in Africa.

By challenging the status quo, embracing creativity, and celebrating colour,  pushing the culture and heritage narrative; Nigeria can empower its men to dress not just to impress but to express.

As the stakes continue to rise in this exciting realm of beautiful innovation, there is a call for governmental collaborations to further shape a new narrative that lies in the hands of designers, models, and fashion enthusiasts alike. Africans/Nigerians must understand that it’s time to elevate men’s fashion beyond the familiar shirts and pants, by fostering a vibrant culture of style that echoes the modern man’s identity in Nigeria and beyond.
