The Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has called for stronger collaboration among federal permanent secretaries to accelerate the implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP-25).

Walson-Jack, who made the call at the inaugural retreat for federal permanent secretaries, said that the plan was not just a document but a strategic roadmap that would shape a more efficient, accountable, and citizen-focused public service.

A statement by the head of information and public relations, Mrs Eno Olotu, stated that the head of Civil Service also called for unity and commitment to the reform agenda, which is a testament to the integral role of the permanent secretaries.

In her address during the retreat, the head of Civil Service, themed “Accelerating Public Service Reforms Towards Effective Service Delivery”, highlighted permanent secretaries’ critical role in bridging policy formulation and execution.

She urged them to align their operations with the objectives of the FCSSIP-25 to ensure effective implementation and uphold the principles of good governance.

“You are the anchors that uphold our governance principles within the MDAs. The trust Nigerians have placed in you reflects your commitment and responsibility,” she stated.

While commending the permanent secretaries for their dedication to maintaining the service’s values and standards, she encouraged them to see themselves as custodians of institutional knowledge, tasked with serving Nigerians with integrity and impartiality.

Walson-Jack reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to supporting them by providing guidance, resources, and solutions to overcome challenges and ensure the civil service meets its goals.

“Together, we will navigate difficulties and find solutions that serve our country’s best interests. You can count on my unwavering support,” she said.

She also highlighted the importance of embracing the core values of accountability, meritocracy, professionalism, loyalty, and efficiency (AMPLE) as the foundation of their leadership.

The head of Civil Service said that embracing these values will build a stronger civil service and restore confidence in the Nigerian people, urging for a cultural shift within the civil service towards transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
