Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) has adopted the verification committee report to verify the eligibility of candidates for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The chairman of the state’s electoral body, Hashim Akintunde Abioye, said at a press conference in Osogbo that the committee did a good job and that the commission had no reason to tamper with the verification exercise’s outcome.

While reiterating the integrity of the verification committee members, Abioye said, “ The Verification Committee carried out the assignment with all faithfulness, truthfulness and dedication, without fear or favour. Let me digress to challenge anyone who can show me the political bias or affiliation of any of the Verification Committee members.”

Abioye, who said that the report of the verification exercise had been forwarded to all the political parties concerned, gave candidates whose eligibility are facing the challenge of submitting specific credentials to do so within the next 48 hours.

He noted that virtually all the political parties contesting the elections had one case or another of remediable fractions. He added that some political parties, however, committed most of the incurable infractions by giving nomination forms for candidates whose names were not on the list in some local government areas and wards.

The chairman debunked the rumour that the date of February 22, 2025, fixed by the commission for the conduct of the election, had been changed.

He maintained that the date remained sacrosanct, adding that the commission remained the legally authorised body responsible for the election.

Abioye reiterates the electoral body’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election on 22nd February 2024.
