According to the minister, tourism is more than an industry; it is a pathway to peace and reconciliation. Echoing the global theme “Tourism and Peace,” she noted that every interaction between visitors and hosts presents an opportunity to build bridges of understanding, ultimately contributing to a peaceful and prosperous nation.

“As we celebrate World Tourism Day 2024 under the theme ‘Tourism and Peace,’ we reflect on tourism’s profound impact beyond its significant economic benefits.

“This theme resonates deeply within the tourism sector and the global community at large, especially in these times when the pursuit of peace is more crucial than ever.

“Beyond the surface, tourism is a powerful tool for fostering peace, breaking down barriers, and promoting understanding between diverse cultures.

“It is important that we practice tourism responsibly, honouring local cultures, protecting the environment, and promoting inclusivity.

“Sustainable tourism, which respects both people and the planet, is not just an economic driver but a pathway to peace.

“By promoting dialogue and understanding, it can transform places of division into spaces of reconciliation.

“When communities benefit economically from tourism, they are more likely to invest in their own development and maintain peace,” Ade-John said.
