In a heartbreaking incident in the Amaeze area of Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, a farmer and his two sons were tragically killed by suspected herders.
The attack occurred on Friday while the family was working on their farmland. The news of this brutal act shocked local officials and residents alike.
Emmanuel Ajah, the executive chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, expressed his sorrow over the incident in a statement released on Sunday. “It is with great sadness that I, Hon. Chief Ajah Emmanuel Ogbonna, learned of the horrific killing of three individuals from our community who were simply tending to their farm. It is particularly devastating that this violence claimed the lives of a father and his two sons,” he stated.
Ajah condemned the killings as a despicable act and emphasised that the government is committed to protecting the lives and properties of its citizens. He announced that an emergency security meeting had been convened, involving key stakeholders such as military representatives, divisional police officers, the Department of State Services, town union leaders, and other community figures.
During the meeting, attendees discussed strategies to address the situation and prevent further incidents that could disrupt peace and order in the community. “I assure you that those responsible for this heinous act will face justice, regardless of the cost to the government. We cannot allow herders to harm our people without consequence,” Ajah declared.
In related developments, Joshua Ukandu, spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, confirmed the incident to Channels Television. He noted that police operatives are actively working in the area to apprehend those responsible for this tragic event. “The incident has been verified, and our officers are conducting thorough operations to bring the culprits to justice,” Ukandu stated.
