If Tinubu Fails, I Fail, Delta Governor, Oborevwori, Declares

Governor of Delta State, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu, stressing that if the president fails, he, as a governor, would have failed.

The governor’s chief press secretary (CPS), Sir Festus Ahon, stated in Asaba while reacting to the outcome of a report by an executive assistant, New Media, to the governor, Mr Felix Ofou.

The CPS lamented that Ofou’s article was mischievously misinterpreted by a section of the media, adding that, contrary to perception, the governor has a harmonious working relationship with the president.

Ahon said, “the Governor has constantly urged Deltans and other Nigerians to continue to give support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, stressing that “if the President fails”, he, as a governor, would have failed, too.”

He continued, “But I will tell you today whether you like it or not, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is supporting this administration. God has made him the President as God has made me the Governor of Delta State.

“So, as you are supporting me, support him because if he fails, I will fail, but by the grace of God, he will not fail and I will not fail, too.

“Mr President has appointed our sons and daughters into various positions. He did not appoint people from outside the state. God has given him victory and God has given me victory; you people should support us to succeed”.

Ahon added, “it is, therefore, imperative to state categorically that, as Chief Press Secretary and official spokesman of the Governor of Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori did not, and has never, expressed such views on Mr President’s economic policies.

“The general public is, therefore, advised to jettison such misleading reports as they do not reflect the views of the Governor who is working very hard to provide good governance for Deltans and other residents of the state, despite the present economic challenges faced by the citizens” Ahon stated.

Ahon stated this in response to former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s recent diatribe against Governor Oborevwori at an APC event in Oghara, Ethiope West local government area of the state.

Meanwhile, the Delta State House of Assembly, (DSHA), has lifted the suspension placed on two members representing Ukwani constituency Hon Chukwudi Dafe and another representing Bomadi Constituency, Hon Oboro Preyo.

This followed the expiration of the 14 legislative days suspension slammed on them by the House for alleged gross misconduct.

The committee investigating them was yet to submit its report but the legislators were recalled following the expiration of the 14 legislative days.

The speaker, DSHA, Hon Emomotimi Guwor announced the lifting of the suspension at Tuesday’s plenary of the House.

Guwor said following the alleged gross misconduct on the members, an investigative committee was set up to look into the allegations.

He said though the committee was yet to submit its report the legislators were hereby recalled following the expiration of the 14 legislative days.

The House then gave leave to the Majority Leader Hon, Emeka Nwaobi to bring in a Bill for a law to provide for the Establishment of the Delta State Food security Agency.

The Majority Leader who moved motion for the Bill to be read the 1st time was seconded by the member representing Oshimili South, Hon Bridget Anyafulu.

The second reading of the Bill was then deferred to January 28, 2025.
