After weeks of anticipation and fierce competition, top sports journalists have been unveiled as the nominees for the inaugural 2024 Best Grassroots Reporting Award, organized by the Nigeria Sports Journalists in Diaspora (NSJID).
On Friday, March 7, the NSJID will announce the winners of this groundbreaking initiative, designed to highlight untold sports stories and elevate Nigerian sports to unprecedented heights.
In the Print Journalism category, nominees include Abiodun Adewale, Olawale Olaniran, and Jacob Ajom. For Radio Broadcasting, the contenders are Dayo Amusan, Maxwell Lawrence, and Tony Bekederemo.
Meanwhile, the Television category features Blessing Nwosu, Cecilia Omoregbe, and Boluwaji Ogunmola as nominees. And in the Social/Online Media category, Samuel Ahmadu, Naifooty, and Hassan Abdullahi are competing for the top honor.
Winners in each of the four categories will receive N500,000.
This awards initiative by the NSJID aims to encourage Nigerian sports journalists to focus on developmental stories within the country.
Chairman of the Award Committee, Chief Gboyega Okegbenro, invites sports enthusiasts to join in celebrating the best in grassroots sports reporting, highlighting the deserving winners who will each receive a substantial cash prize.
The NSJID is led by Mr. Gbenga Bakare, with Eyobong Ita serving as Vice Chairman and Deji Sodeinde as Secretary. The awards committee, headed by Okegbenro, also includes Tony Ubani, Adekunle Salami, Blessing Nwosu, Raheem Olatunji, John Atali, Robinson Okosun, Sàni Zaria, and Yemi Ojo.
