The Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, is set to commence laser surgeries, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Yusuf Abdullahi, has stated.

Abdullahi stated this in an interview with journalists on Thursday, shortly after assuming office for the second term following President Bola Tinubu’s recent reappointment.

The chief medical director said the hospital is procuring modern equipment for laser surgeries, which uses special light beams instead of instruments to perform surgical operations.

In addition, he said the facility is procuring equipment for cancer treatment, noting that the idea is to relieve patients who currently have to travel to distant locations like Lagos, Sokoto, Maiduguri, or Abuja for treatment.

According to him, cancer is getting more prevalent, which requires the hospital to bring succour to patients, ensuring that the hospital has started procuring big equipment for its treatment.

“My administration in the hospital will also ensure the transition to solar energy within the year, reducing its dependence on fuel-guzzling generators and lowering electricity costs.
