In a move to transform Nigeria’s healthcare landscape, UNICCON Group of Companies has launched an AI-driven telemedicine healthcare platform, “MySmartMedic” aimed at improving Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The company has also urged the federal government to integrate this innovative solution into its hospital management systems.

UNICCON Group in Abuja piloted the AI-powered telemedicine software in Galadimawa Village in the FCT with the goal of expanding access to quality healthcare in rural communities.

The chairman, Prof. Chuks Ekwueme, stated that healthcare should be convenient rather than complicated, adding that MySmartMedic would ensure access to quality medical advice within minutes for anyone, regardless of their location or financial status.

Ekwueme explained that the inspiration behind MySmartMedic was to provide users and patients a robust healthcare application that would help bridge the gap in accessing healthcare services in Africa, especially given the challenges posed by limited and underfunded medical facilities.

He noted that many existing health applications primarily focused on hospital management systems, which is why they aimed to create a social impact solution for the masses by applying artificial intelligence to healthcare.

“This initiative will offer instant virtual consultations, intelligent symptom analysis and accessible healthcare services across the country.

“It will also reduce costs, address manpower shortages, increase efficiency, extend reach, and alleviate pressure on government facilities,” he said.

The Village Head of Galadimawa, Alhaji Musa Barde, expressed his enthusiasm for the potential of this initiative to bridge the healthcare gap in Nigeria

Barde stated that the initiative would significantly assist Primary Healthcare (PHC) in catering to more individuals within the community.

“I am very pleased that you are starting with our community. I will offer my full support to ensure its success,” he said.

Ekwueme further asserted that MySmartMedic would revolutionise Nigeria’s healthcare accessibility challenges, providing a seamless, affordable, and secure means for Nigerians to consult with licensed doctors, obtain e-prescriptions, and receive AI-powered health recommendations anytime, anywhere.

“It would greatly benefit government-owned hospitals to collaborate with telemedicine providers by integrating this technology into their hospital management systems.

“With a doctor-to-patient ratio far below WHO recommendations, MySmartMedic’s AI system will help analyse symptoms and recommend next steps, significantly reducing consultation times and improving diagnostic accuracy.

“The platform also offers instant consultations with doctors via video, audio, or chat, alongside prescription refills and drug delivery services for seamless access to medication, as well as specialist access for chronic disease management, dermatology, mental health, and more.

“Given the shortfall in healthcare workers, health centres, and funding, telemedicine remains the easiest, fastest, and most affordable means of providing certain categories of health services to rural areas.

“MySmartMedic aligns with Nigeria’s digital health transformation goals, aiming to support both government and private healthcare initiatives in improving nationwide healthcare accessibility.”

He emphasised that telemedicine does not replace physical consultations or examinations, particularly in emergency situations, adding that MySmartMedic includes features that will digitally monitor certain patients’ vital signs and display them to the examining telemedicine professional.

Ekwueme encouraged anyone seeking further information to visit www.mysmartmedic.com.
