The deputy governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, represented by the commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof Baba Malam Gana, said the commissioning of the hospital underscored the unwavering commitment of WHO and the Borno State government in prioritising the health and well-being of citizens.

Gana conveyed the profound satisfaction of the deputy governor, stating that the momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in the collective pursuit of improving healthcare delivery in the state.

He said the newly commissioned facility, fully equipped with modern medical amenities, would address the long-overdue need for expanded services due to population growth.

He said a similar project is also slated to commence in Monguno, further demonstrating the government’s dedication to extending quality healthcare access across the state with the continued support of the WHO.

Prof Gana expressed deep gratitude to the WHO for their invaluable partnership, emphasising that, “The World Health Organisation has always been a key partner in delivering healthcare services to the people of this state, and this project is a testimony to the highly impactful and fruitful collaboration between the state and the WHO.”

He assured WHO that the provided infrastructure would be “judiciously utilised to strengthen the healthcare system of the Biu community and its environs, providing effective and efficient healthcare services to the people.”

The WHO Country Representative to Nigeria, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, lauded the Borno State government’s proactive approach, saying, “WHO appreciates Borno State government for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to support the health needs of its people. We promise our continued support and collaboration.”

The chief medical director of the Borno State Hospital Management Board, Professor Abubakar Kullima also commended WHO for their comprehensive support, urging other partners to emulate their commitment.
