The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing Nigerian forest guards to complement the efforts of security personnel in curbing criminality in the nation’s forests.
NFSS Commandant General Joshua Osatimehin and DCG Intelligence, NFSS, Dr John Metchie, among others, stated this during a press briefing at the NFSS headquarters in Abuja.
They explained that with over 48,000 personnel spread across every state and its existing structures in every state, the NFSS is well positioned and capable of carrying out the mandate. They noted that this move would go a long way in securing the nation’s vast forests.
“We are very committed to securing the nation’s forests, and we will not relent in our efforts to ensure we complement other security agencies in achieving this objective,” CG Osatimehin said.
Meanwhile, the DCG Intelligence, Dr John Metchie, has called on the president to do what is necessary to sign the bill and seek to establish the NFSS.
Since the president has decided to establish the forest guards, only time will tell how this will translate into actionable plans.
