Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited Nigeria’s current challenges and deserves national support to succeed, describing his first two years in office as “wonderful.”

Governor Eno made the remarks during a chat with state house correspondents at the presidential villa in Abuja after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Responding to a question on the state of the nation under President Tinubu, the governor stated: “President Tinubu didn’t create the problem we are in right now. And for me, I believe he is doing his best, and he should be supported to finish.”

As he prepares to mark his own two years in office, Governor Eno highlighted key achievements of his administration in Akwa Ibom State, pointing to extensive work across multiple sectors.

“When you come to Akwa Ibom, you’ll find that we are working across the board—from schools, hospitals, roads, and markets. We are on ground and delivering,” he said.

He explained that while the focus in his first term was largely on rural development, the next two years will usher in a wave of large-scale infrastructure projects to boost the state’s economy and global appeal.

“We are now moving on to super infrastructural development. We want to make Akwa Ibom a tourist destination—and we are on the way,” he said.

Governor Eno also expressed pride in Akwa Ibom’s governance legacy, crediting his predecessors with laying a solid foundation for progress.

“Akwa Ibom has been particularly lucky. We’ve been blessed with good leaders—from Obong Attah to Godswill Akpabio, Chief Udom Emmanuel, and now me. We come, we build, and we continue that trajectory. Compared to other states, I think Akwa Ibom is doing well,” he noted.

Addressing youth empowerment, the governor said his administration has prioritised skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.

“We are investing in our youth. We are training, providing skills, supporting SMEs, and we’ve opened an employment portal to help job seekers. The goal is to rebuild the middle class,” he said.

Governor Eno assured that his government remains committed to inclusive growth, leveraging partnerships with the federal government and the private sector to unlock Akwa Ibom’s full potential.
