President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji at the State House in Abuja amid an ongoing controversy surrounding the sealing of a FIRS office by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The meeting came hours after the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, ordered the closure of two FIRS offices in Abuja over alleged failure of the agency to pay ground rent for 25 years.

The closure has sparked criticism from the tax agency, which described the move as “malicious” and “unprofessional,” arguing that the property in question was under the management of the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.

Also at the Villa on Monday were the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; and the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, who held separate closed-door meetings with the President.

Tinubu also received the Managing Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mark Okoye II, who had earlier announced the commission’s ambition to drive the region’s economy to $200 billion by 2035 in line with the President’s $1 trillion GDP target.
