The Youth Wing of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has strongly condemned a move by the Southern Kaduna Progressives Youth Network to initiate a recall process against Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who represents the Kaduna South Senatorial District.

In an official statement issued on Thursday, the SOKAPU Youth Wing described the recall attempt and the group’s call for an EFCC investigation into the senator as “ill-timed, divisive, and unrepresentative” of the genuine aspirations of the region’s youth.

“As the umbrella body of all Southern Kaduna youths, we disassociate ourselves from the antics of this so-called group. Their actions neither reflect the values of our people nor serve the interest of peace and development,” the statement read.

Signed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Solomon Simon, Secretary General, Comrade Aruwa Alhassan, and National P.R.O., Comrade Isah Emmanuel Anjadick, the youth body reaffirmed its unwavering support for Senator Katung, citing his legislative performance and community impact as commendable.

They noted several key interventions credited to the senator, including a N1.6 billion federal bailout for ginger farmers in 2024, support for diphtheria victims in 2023, and the sponsorship of bills for the establishment of a Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, and a Technology Incubation Centre also to be sited in Kafanchan.

The group further highlighted Senator Katung’s grassroots initiatives, such as scholarships for indigent students, renovation of healthcare facilities, construction of science laboratories, and the provision of over 30 solar-powered boreholes.

SOKAPU Youths warned against using youth platforms for political vendettas, calling on all young people in Southern Kaduna to promote unity and focus on meaningful development rather than divisive politics.

“Our loyalty is to the region, not political parties,” they emphasized. “Let’s build, not break. Let’s unite, not divide.”

The statement comes amidst growing political tension in parts of Kaduna South, with various stakeholders weighing in on the performance and fate of elected officials in the region.
