Ondo Town in Ondo State came alive last Saturday, May 31, 2025, as it hosted the elegant wedding reception of Precious Atoiki and James Ida, shortly after their civil marriage at the Federal Marriage Registry in Ikoyi, Lagos, on May 26.
What began as a digital connection between the couple blossomed into a celebration filled with elegance, heartfelt traditions, and deep spiritual significance. The grand reception at Labim Hotels and Events Centre was the highlight of a week of festivities that attracted guests from across Nigeria and beyond.
Their love story began online when Precious, during a power outage, discovered James’ photo. “I was smitten and boldly slid into his DMs,” she recalled with laughter. After a few missed connections, they finally met in Lagos, and the rest is history.
James appreciated her message for its simplicity. “She was polite, no cheesy lines—just real conversation. That’s what caught my attention,” he said.
Before the reception, traditional marriage rites were conducted on May 30 at the bride’s family home in Ondo, where James formally sought her hand through the Yoruba Dòbálè ritual.
The couple’s faith was central to the ceremonies. A Bible-based discussion at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses offered guests scriptural encouragement, emphasising Jehovah as the “third cord” in their union.
“Marriage is a journey of love, understanding, and commitment,” said Ireti Atoiki, the bride’s mother. “I thank Jehovah for giving my daughter a man who will love and cherish her.”
The groom’s mother, Mary Ikpe, prayed for their union, saying: “May Jehovah bless your marriage and strengthen you both as you begin this new chapter.”
The reception at Labim Hotel was lively and intimate, featuring music, dancing, and heartfelt prayers. Guests enjoyed a playful dance showdown between the couple and their friends.
The couple had playfully teased their guests in their invitation: “You are warmly invited, but don’t come empty-footed—wear your dancing shoes!”
Tributes flowed from family and friends. Peace Atoiki, the bride’s sister, called her “a second mother” and expressed joy in seeing her find a loving partner.
Gabriel Ida, the groom’s brother, remarked: “James has always been kind and responsible. I’m happy he found someone as loving and faithful as Precious. Their decision to keep Jehovah at the centre is a strength.”
Others, including Promise Atoiki, Kingsley Ukanwoke, Cheers Benson, and Jahswill Ida, shared blessings, prayers, and memories reflecting the couple’s deep connection and values.
In a message of gratitude, the couple expressed: “The planning and events have shown us how deeply we are loved. To those who travelled far and offered support through advice, calls, and kindness, we thank you. May Jehovah bless your heartfelt sacrifices.”
