The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the receipt of fresh applications from 12 new political associations, including one named ‘I Love Nigeria’ (ILN), seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 122.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Commission and signed by National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, on Thursday.

“On Monday last week (23rd June 2025), the Commission announced that it had received applications from 110 associations seeking registration as political parties,” the statement read. “We also assured Nigerians that we will be giving regular updates on the matter. The Commission is processing these applications transparently and in fairness to all applicants.”

According to INEC, the latest 12 applications were received as of Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Details of the new associations, including names, acronyms, addresses, and interim leadership, have been published on the Commission’s website and social media platforms.

“We will respond to these applicants in line with the Electoral Act and the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022,” INEC assured.

However, the Commission expressed concern over internal instability within some of the associations, saying, “One association has already changed its interim Secretary as a result of defection to another association.”

“To facilitate the consideration of these applications, the Commission appeals to associations to maintain consistency of their proposed leadership and addresses so that they do not by their own actions cause a delay to the timely consideration of their applications,” INEC stated.
