NASS Commission, Kaduna Forge Stronger Legislative Ties

National Assembly (NASS) Service Commission has paid a working visit to the Kaduna State Assembly Service Commission to strengthen legislative institutions and foster synergy among assemblies in the country.

Led by sthe enator who represented Kaduna North in the 8th National Assembly, Suleiman Uthman Hunkuyi and North West representative on the National Assembly Service Commission, the delegation emphasised the importance of cooperation, shared experiences, and mutual capacity-building during their engagement with the Kaduna Assembly.

The visit, which focused on deepening institutional partnerships and improving legislative service delivery, provided a platform for the two commissions to exchange ideas, share challenges, and highlight staffing and operational efficiency best practices.

In his welcome address, the Kaduna State Assembly Service Commission chairman, Hon. Nuhu Goroh Shadalafiya, expressed confidence in the engagement’s outcomes, describing it as productive, insightful, and a catalyst for excellence in legislative service delivery.

Shadalafiya noted that the Kaduna Commission showcased its internal processes and achievements while engaging in constructive dialogue on reforms that would enhance its service to the state legislature.

During the session, Senator Hunkuyi commended the Kaduna Commission’s achievements and reaffirmed the National Commission’s commitment to fostering robust collaboration.

He also acknowledged the support of the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman, the Governor of Kaduna State, and Senator Uba Sani are working to strengthen the legislative institution.

“The enabling law establishing the Kaduna State Assembly Service Commission has recently been reviewed, giving it a renewed mandate to deliver on quality staffing and institutional support for legislative duties.”

He emphasised the commission’s critical role in identifying, recruiting, and training staff to meet the demands of legislative work, particularly in supporting lawmakers in their legislative and oversight functions.

Responding on behalf of the speaker, Deputy Speaker Barr. Henry Danjuma Magaji lauded the visit and reiterated the importance of collaboration between the commissions and the broader legislative arm of government.

Danjuma, who also represents the Kagarko constituency, said, “This engagement provides an opportunity for peer learning and experience sharing that will ultimately enhance service delivery and policy implementation across the board.”

Both commissions agreed on the need for continuous collaboration and hinted at a follow-up visit to solidify the commitments and further operationalise the partnership.

The visit marks a strategic step toward enhancing legislative competence and institutional capacity across Nigeria’s legislative bodies, particularly in the North-West region.
