American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has announced her intention to seek help following her arrest over allegations of domestic violence.

The 25-year-old was detained on 27 July at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after an altercation with her boyfriend and fellow US athlete Christian Coleman.

A police report indicated that footage appeared to show Coleman being pushed against a wall before Richardson threw an object at him.

Commenting on her arrest for the first time in a social media post, the Olympic gold and silver medallist stated: “I’m taking this time not only to reflect on myself but to seek a certain level of help that will ultimately reflect who I truly am.”

Coleman opted not to participate in the investigation and “declined to be a victim,” according to the police report. Richardson was released the following day. She apologised to Coleman, saying: “I love him, and I can’t apologise enough to him.”
