Jigawa State governor Malam Umar Namadi has flagged off the construction of the Andaza–Duhuwa–Katanga–Baranda road, which the state government awarded at a cost of N2.889 billion.

The 17.5km road project was inaugurated during the governor’s visit to the Kiyawa local government area as part of the state’s ongoing “Government Citizens Engagement” programme (Gwamnatin Da Jama’a).

In his speech, Governor Namadi stated that the feeder road project is part of his administration’s commitment to linking rural areas with accessible roads. It aims to enhance the transportation of goods and services, thereby supporting social and economic development.

“It is well known that agriculture is a mainstay of Jigawa State’s economy. More than 90 per cent of our rural communities are farmers. An access road like this will go a long way in connecting them to markets for transporting their farm produce, while also giving them access to modern farm implements and technology to boost their businesses.

“We are glad to flag off the construction of this feeder road, which will have multiple impacts on the social and economic lives of the beneficiary communities. It also supports our agricultural mechanisation policy, food security, and sustainable economic development,” Governor Namadi stated.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon. Engr. Gambo Malam, said the road project was awarded to Radok Construction Nigeria Limited with a 12-month completion period.

He added that the project is among 47 road projects, covering over 995km, awarded by the Governor Umar Namadi-led administration. These projects are designed to facilitate the movement of goods and services and achieve egalitarian development across the state.
